Finding my dress at Helen Rodrigues Bridal was such a great experience; from the moment I stepped foot inside the boutique, the team was always so helpful and attentive. The Helen Rodrigues team really excelled in creating the perfect atmosphere for an excited bride to be.

How did you and your husband meet?

Riku is Finnish and I’m from Sydney - we were working in the same office for over a year but didn’t meet until we crossed paths at a mutual colleague’s going away party.

How did he propose?

Riku organised a surprise private open-door helicopter ride when we were on a holiday in New York City two years ago. Once we got out of the helicopter he knelt down on one knee and proposal. I had no idea, it was such an amazing surprise!

What was your vision for your wedding day?

We wanted to create a romantic, English garden party vibe but also keep it fun and elegant. We had lots of flowers, candles and fun elements like custom crowns for each guest and lots of balloons and a disco ball for the dance floor.

Where did you look for your wedding inspiration?

I am constantly pinning images on Pinterest and saving posts on Instagram so that was a big help when I was putting together all my reference inspiration images. A lot of them were from other weddings, events and parties.

What drew you to your gown from Helen Rodrigues Bridal?

I loved the Taylor gown as soon as I saw it. I wanted a more modern gown and the total embellishment, blush undertone and leg slit of the dress was perfect. The moment I tried it on I knew it was the one.

What was your wedding journey like for you? How far out did you start planning?

The planning of the wedding was really so much fun. We’ve been based in Helsinki for a couple of years now so I knew we needed some expert help based in Sydney to help us with our planning. About 12 months out from our date I got in touch with Georgie from After The Rock and she helped us put together our dream wedding.

What was the biggest decision you had to make?

I can’t really pinpoint one ‘biggest decision’, but one we had a little difficulty at first with finding the perfect venue for our reception. We looked all around Sydney and ended up choosing a beautiful golf club in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney. The amazing gardens and blank space caught our eye, it really allowed us to create our dream space.

What was the highlight of your wedding day for you?

There were many highlights of the day, but one of them was definitely being announced as husband and wife for the first time. Also seeing all of our ideas and plans for the day come to life was really quite amazing.

Is there anything you would do differently?

There really isn’t anything I would do differently, everything ended up being such a dream come true.

Is there any advice you would give other #HRBride’s?

Make sure to be present and really take everything in with your new husband on the day; it goes by so quickly… and have fun!
