How did you and your husband meet?
Julian and I met through working casual jobs in retail in our younger years while both studying at university. Through mutual friends we all planed to go out together post work and no one showed up besides Julian and I! We decided to stay and make the most out of the planned outing just the two of us and we had a fun time! The rest just unfolded naturally from there.
How did he propose?
Julian proposed on an amazing holiday away in New Zealand! I was eager to hike up Roy’s Peak however he said it was not able to fit into our itinerary due to timing. He surprised me by organising a helicopter ride through the mountains and coordinating a private landing on top of the mountain, dropping to one knee with a ring and a private photographer hidden amongst the mountain range! It was intimate, heartfelt and completely us. I couldn’t have imagined it any other way.
What was your vision for your wedding day?
Our vision was timeless, romantic, and deeply personal. We always dreamt of an intimate destination wedding however with many close loved ones being unable to travel abroad we wanted to bring the feeling of a destination wedding closer to home. We wanted the day to feel elegant yet relaxed, with beautiful details that reflected us as a couple while still feeling warm and welcoming for our guests.
Where did you look for your wedding gown inspiration?
I drew inspiration from real weddings I have attended of loved ones and classic bridal silhouettes. I loved the idea of blending modern simplicity with traditional cultural bridal elements, focusing on soft florals and refined styling letting the surroundings of our location take the main focus.
Tell us about your experience at Helen Rodrigues Bridal and what drew you to your gown?
Helen Rodrigues Bridal was the first place I began my bridal gown journey. From the moment I tried on the first gown style and shape which the stylists suggested at Helen Rodrigues I instantly felt like that was the one. I felt like myself, just elevated. I went searching for multiple other boutiques and designs however kept comparing to my experience and feeling with Helen’s selections. The craftsmanship, structure, and attention to detail were unlike anything else I tried on with the range she has. The gown I selected felt timeless, flattering and incredibly special matching the theme I was envisioning. I knew instantly it was the one.
“From my very first appointment, Nicole and Helen at Helen Rodrigues Bridal made me feel confident and truly special. I felt like they had so much knowledge and experience in the industry, it didn’t feel like a transaction but more like a cheer squad guiding me through one of the biggest moments of my life. The level of care and attention to detail was exceptional, even picking up on small details I missed to elevate the overall final look. My Galia Lahav gown was everything I dreamed of and more timeless, elegant and perfectly tailored to fit me with hardly any adjustments as they had it right on the first go! I couldn’t recommend the team at Helen Rodrigues Bridal enough to any bride looking for something truly unforgettable and unique.
”
What was the highlight of your wedding day for you?
Walking into our family church I grew up in and seeing Julian standing at the front waiting for me for the first time was unforgettable. It was such an emotional, surreal moment where everything else just melted away. Celebrating with our family and friends afterward made it even more special.
Is there anything you would do differently?
Honestly, no. The day went by so quickly, and I wouldn’t change a thing. If anything, I would just remind myself to slow down and soak in every moment and not to stress over the little things like timing of events during the day.
Is there any advice you would give other #HRBride’s?
