How did you and your husband meet?

We first met officially on Bumble in May 2018, although had both recognised each other from the local pub (the Buena) as Martin would come in quite often with his parents and sister as he lived just up the road at the time, and I worked there. Our first date was relatively low-key as we just went to a local café for a coffee and then a walk up to the Barracks in Mosman. The first date ended up going for hours as we were just chatting away until I had to leave for work. During the date, Martin went via his house to grab a jumper and I followed him inside little did I know I would be meeting all of his family (mum, dad and sister) except his brother on the first date!

How did he propose?

When we were planning our Christmas holiday to New Zealand, Martin had already decided he wanted to propose there. He booked a stunning cottage at Mudbrick Vineyard and knew he wanted to do it out front, with the beautiful ocean view between Waiheke Island and Auckland. Even better, my best friend Charlotte and her partner Harrison happened to be holidaying on Waiheke too, so Martin planned a dinner for the four of us on the evening he would propose.

That day, Martin and I cycled around the island, swam at the beach, and visited a couple of wineries with Charlotte and Harrison. While I ducked into the bathroom, Martin quietly asked them to drop us at our cottage and meet us later for dinner as he was about to propose. Before we left for dinner, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!

What was your vision for your wedding day?

We wished for a warm and inviting celebration surrounded by our loved ones and Queenstown’s natural beauty. We wanted it to feel elegant and timeless yet also fun and relaxed. We had three long tables during our reception with share plates for food and it felt like a big family dinner which we loved.

Where did you look for your wedding gown inspiration? (What tools/sites did you use to gather your inspiration)

I looked at a few different places when searching for my wedding gown. I started looking for inspiration on Instagram for bridal styles I loved. I also looked up different bridal stores online to find inspiration. I was drawn to Helen Rodrigues after seeing the beautiful selection of gowns on their website and socials.

Tell us about your experience at Helen Rodrigues Bridal and what drew you to your gown?

From the moment I stepped into Helen Rodrigues, everything was seamless. My initial appointment with Nicole was very welcoming yet professional. She listened to what type of gown I was looking for and gave great suggestions. I loved Susanne Neville’s designs but wasn’t sure which was my dress. When I tried on the Bloomsbury gown, I knew it was something special. Once I’d decided on the dress, Helen was so helpful with ensuring that my alterations were perfect and made the process from start to finish so smooth.

I can’t thank the team at Helen Rodrigues Bridal enough for helping me find my dream dress. I felt absolutely incredible wearing my Susanne Neville gown on my wedding day. It was everything I hoped for and more.

Everyone was so helpful, knowledgeable, and supportive throughout the whole process. Their expertise and guidance made the experience truly special. I’m so grateful and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to any bride-to-be. It was such a memorable and stress-free experience from start to finish!

What was the highlight of your wedding day for you?

The first highlight of my wedding day were our vows. Although I was incredibly nervous, it was so special to stand there and share all your thoughts and feelings with your best friend and feel so much love in the one room. The second highlight was the dancefloor. I am at my happiest when I’m dancing and our wedding day was no exception. Once the music started, everyone danced their hearts out until the last song.

Is there any advice you would give other #HRBride’s?

I would say, as much as possible, try to not get overwhelmed by all the little bits that can become all-consuming when planning a wedding. Make sure when planning, that your wedding reflects you and your partner, rather than creating something you think will be aesthetic or look good in photos. As a lot of people say, it goes so fast so take everything in and enjoy the magic.

Whether you're looking for a classic wedding dress or something truly unique, Helen Rodrigues Bridal offers a truly personalised experience for every bride. Book your appointment today and find your dream gown.
