How They Met
We met the way many modern love stories start—with a solid swipe right. Our first date was on Coogee Beach. It was one of those perfect, easy-going afternoons where conversation flowed naturally.
The Proposal
We were in Bali and had booked a sunrise breakfast to enjoy some quiet time together. He knows I’m not a fan of loud, public proposals, so the setting was absolutely perfect—no distractions or crowds, just an intimate moment between us.
Wedding Day Vision
We envisioned a day that was relaxed yet incredibly chic. We wanted something intimate, with only our closest friends and family, almost like a courthouse wedding but elevated by bespoke details that truly reflected us. While we moved away from many traditional elements, we focused on creating a day that felt more like the best party you’ve ever been to.
Wedding Inspiration
Most of my inspiration came from Instagram and Pinterest. I was aiming for a look that was both modern and timeless, so I sought inspiration that blended classic elegance with contemporary touches. I used social media to help me nut out the final details, like how brides paired a long veil with a short dress, bridal bouquets that suited a petite frame, and bridal jewelry that worked with different hairstyles e.g. diamomd drop earrings with a half-up/half-down look.
The Wedding Dress: Claude by Monique Lhuillier from Helen Rodrigues Bridal
I was scrolling through Instagram when I saw an ad launching the Spring 2024 Monique Lhuillier collection, and I instantly fell in love with the Claude Dress. When I clicked through, I realised Helen Rodrigues Bridal was hosting a trunk show that very weekend. It felt like fate, so I booked an appointment immediately! I didn’t have that typical “this is the one” moment right away, but I trusted the process, knowing that after the alterations, it would be perfect. And it truly was.
The Experience at Helen Rodrigues Bridal
Biggest Decision
One of the biggest decisions was choosing the venue. We initially thought about having a simple courthouse wedding but realised that it didn’t feel personal enough. We wanted a space that felt intimate but still beautiful and meaningful. Choosing the Shakespeare Room at the State Library of NSW for our ceremony was a game-changer—it had the perfect blend of character, history, and elegance.
Wedding Day Highlight
A definite highlight was creating and wearing our custom wedding perfume. We knew we wanted to craft something bespoke that would remind us of the day forever, knowing how deeply scent is tied to memory. The fragrance was a unique mix of tobacco, amber, Kakadu plum, and pear. Every time we smell it, it takes us back to those magical moments.
What would she change?
I would remind myself not to wish the day away! We were both so nervous in the morning and throughout the ceremony, but those moments were incredibly special. In hindsight, I wish we could have slowed down and been more present to soak in every second.
